A mortgage is a home loan that gives you money to purchase a home and allows you to purchase a home you can't afford to pay for upfront. The lender (usually a bank or financial institution) agrees to lend you money you need to buy a property based upon specific repayment terms. It's paid monthly until you either a) pay off the loan or b) sell the property. They are always due on the 1st of the month, but you'll have a 15-day grace period for additional flexibility! 

Your mortgage can include the following:

1. Money borrowed
2. Interest rate
3. Homeowners insurance
4. Taxes
