Today, I’ll share some tips and tricks to guide you in making the best choices during your home-building process.

It’s easy to get carried away during the selection process, especially with so many tempting options, some of which come with additional costs. To avoid overspending, it’s crucial to stick to a budget. This will help you distinguish between what you really need and what you simply like. Create a priority list and rank your selection upgrades based on their importance to you. Once you reach your budget limit, it’s time to stop or re-evaluate your choices.

STEP 2: Start Exterior Shopping

The exterior of your home plays a significant role in curb appeal, and getting it right can be challenging. I recommend driving through different communities to see what you like and dislike. It’s much easier to visualize selections on a full-sized house rather than a small showroom sample. Take plenty of photos and notes so you can approach selection day with confidence.

STEP 3: Define Your Style & Gather Inspiration

Before your design meeting, it’s essential to define your style, especially if you’re building with a partner. Take some time to sit down together and discuss what you’re both drawn to. This will help ensure a cohesive look throughout your home that reflects both of your personalities. Make it fun by browsing design magazines, scrolling through Pinterest, and collecting images and ideas that inspire you.

If you plan to upgrade your lighting after closing, ensure you have a ceiling fan prewire to support heavier fixtures.
